This is an initiative designed to help meet the needs of under-resourced students with a goal of impacting their families with the love and compassion of Jesus! We have already begun partnering with local school systems while several of our HWL partner churches have been serving their neighborhood schools. The value and potential of this partnership is significant with noteworthy successes already realized! As a community organization, HWL can manage relational connections with local schools and assist in arranging access for churches to do ‘acts of mercy’ and serve families within their neighborhoods. Through Adopt a School, we cannot share the gospel in the schools, but we can place Kingdom people there and show the reality of compassionate faith.
What are the advantages of Adopt a School for your church as a partner with Help With Love?
- A relational connection – we make the initial contact through our Help With Love liaison within the school, then you establish your unique relationship and investment.
- A network of shared ideas – we make available a plethora of ideas learned by others so you can consider unique ways to meet your school’s specific challenges. Conversely, we give you a platform to share your ideas and successes with others for the advancement of the Kingdom and care of the community.
- A training resource – We make available experienced leaders to train your leaders and volunteers in carrying out a meaningful and effective Adopt a School ministry within your church. We’ll come to you or you can come to our community-wide training sessions. Additionally, we are continually available to consult with you on opportunities and challenges.
- A safety net for families – A child in need is always reflective of a family with challenges at home. Help With Love becomes an additional resource for the church to assist families befriended by helping their children.
It’s easy to get started!
There are many things churches could provide, but these four basics are most frequently requested by the schools with which we have worked:
- Mentors – Be a friend to a student during the school day at times set up by the school. All you need is a loving heart!
- Tutors – During and after school tutoring is a great need. Many people from our community have been placed as tutors and have expressed great satisfaction and fulfillment in helping students succeed.
- Care Kits – a distribution of school supplies and hygiene items for low income students. They are generally given out at the beginning of the school year, during Christmas, and in the spring.
- Food and Clothing Pantry – You can stock your school’s pantry with needed items, or let your existing pantry become a host site available to your school. It all depends on you, the school, and your partnership together!
