Student Mentor

As part of our Adopt-a-School program, we have many opportunities for adults of all ages to visit with students for approximately one hour per week, during their school day.  Many students need adult role models, and greatly appreciate the chance to have the full attention of an adult who truly cares about them.  Depending on the age of the student and his or her needs, there are all sorts of ways to spend time together.  Their teachers will provide direction regarding what would be most helpful.  This could include:

  • have lunch in the cafeteria with the student
  • just talk and discuss life together
  • do some craft or activity provided by the teacher
  • color or draw together
  • listen to the student read to you
  • read to the student
  • review math flashcards

If there is a specific school where you would like to volunteer, let us and we may be able to arrange it. We currently have opportunities at Madison Elementary School as well as at Grissom Middle School, but the doors are open at other schools as well.  If you are willing to volunteer, please email thevolunteer application.
